Driver ejected in Shawangunk crash

SHAWANGUNK, NY — State Police were called to Albany Post Road in the town of Shawangunk for a report of a one-car crash on July 1, 2026, at approximately 7:55 a.m.

A preliminary investigation determined that a white Chevrolet Colorado, driven by Robert J. Challener, 46, of Dumont, New Jersey, was traveling northbound on Albany Post Road when he failed to navigate a curve near the intersection of Old Galeville Road.

During the investigation, it was determined that Challener exited the roadway where he collided with a guide rail, struck a tree and was ejected from the vehicle through the windshield.

The vehicle came to a rest facing southbound on the northbound shoulder.

Challener was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center for serious injuries.

Challener was issued tickets for Vehicle and Traffic Violations and is due to appear in Shawangunk Town Court at a later date.
