NISKAYUNA, NY — A 44-year-old man was arrested Thursday on felony drug charges following a two-month investigation that began with a high-speed chase in April.
Jason J. Biittig, of Niskayuna, was taken into custody at approximately 5:07 p.m. at a private residence in Niskayuna by the Colonie Police Special Services Team.
The arrest stems from an incident on April 27 at approximately 1:03 a.m. when Colonie Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2009 Nissan driven by Biittig.
Biittig refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, running red lights and driving the wrong way on I-87, according to police.
Colonie Police terminated the pursuit and the Nissan was located a short time later crashed and abandoned in the backyard of a town resident.
A search of the vehicle revealed a significant quantity of cocaine and other controlled substances, but Biittig was not located at the scene.
An arrest warrant for Biittig was applied for and granted based on his actions that night.
On Thursday, members of the Colonie Police Warrant Squad observed Biittig enter a private residence of a known female associate in Niskayuna.
A search warrant for that residence was applied for and granted while Colonie Police officers remained on scene.
The Colonie Police, with assistance from the Niskayuna Police Department and the New York State Police Aviation Unit, executed the search warrant and took Biittig into custody.
Biittig was charged with criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell, criminal possession of a controlled substance/narcotic, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal mischief, unlawfully fleeing a police officer and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility.
