CHELSEA, MA — Chelsea police arrested a 17-year-old male on a murder charge June 25 in connection with a March homicide.

The arrest occurred at approximately 6 p.m. when Chelsea police detectives and Massachusetts State Police detectives took the juvenile into custody on an arrest warrant issued out of Suffolk Superior Court.

The arrest stems from an ongoing investigation into the death of Eduardo Lopez, who was killed March 19 on Everett Avenue in Chelsea.

The juvenile is scheduled to be arraigned today in Chelsea District Court.

Police Chief Keith Houghton said the arrest sends a message to Chelsea residents that police will pursue those responsible for violent offenses regardless of how long it takes.

Houghton credited the work of Chelsea police detectives and Massachusetts State Police detectives in the case.
