WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Two men were arrested Saturday while allegedly attempting to manipulate an ATM machine at a local bank in what authorities describe as a “jackpotting” scheme.
Manuel Antonio Moguea-Gutierrez, 23, of Brooklyn, New York, and Roberto Flores Zabaleta, 20, of New York, New York, were taken into custody at Adams Community Bank at 273 Main Street on June 20.
Officers working with bank security agents found the suspects in possession of tools and digital equipment allegedly used to access and modify the ATM to steal funds, according to the Williamstown Police Department.
Both men were charged with breaking into a depository, possession of burglarious tools, unauthorized access to a computer system and destruction of property valued over $1,200.
Police Chief Michael Ziemba said the arrests demonstrate how regional, multi-state and international criminal activity can affect the community.
“The persons arrested this weekend appear to be part of a larger criminal organization that perpetrates financial crimes on a wide scale,” Ziemba said.
The Williamstown Police Department is working with state and federal agencies to continue the investigation.
