Man arrested on assault, burglary charges in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO, VT — A 20-year-old New York man is facing aggravated assault and burglary charges following an incident Saturday morning.

Officers with the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a residence in Brattleboro at approximately 8 a.m. for a report of an aggressive male subject.

The caller reported a male subject yelling and banging on his door.

Brattleboro dispatch also received an additional call from a neighbor reporting broken glass and yelling.

Prior to police arrival, the male subject, later identified as Julian Lemert, fled the area on foot.

The victim advised his residence had been damaged when Lemert threw a rock at his door and then broke the glass of the door with his hands.

After a brief physical altercation, Lemert pulled out a knife, waving it aggressively and in close proximity at the victim.

The victim was injured during the altercation but did not require immediate medical attention.

After being taken into custody, Lemert was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained while breaking the glass and during the subsequent altercation.

The court ordered Lemert to be held without bail.

He was ordered to appear at the Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division on June 22.
