Three-vehicle crash reported in Swanton

SWANTON, VT — Vermont State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred on Route 78 at the Larry Greene Fishing Access on June 20, 2026.

Police, along with the Swanton Fire Department and Missisquoi Valley Rescue, responded to the scene at 9:13 a.m.

According to the investigation, Amber Childers, 44, of North Hero, was exiting the fishing access in a 2023 Ford Fusion when she collided with a 2020 Ford Explorer driven by Ernestine Hakey, 69, of Swanton, who was traveling westbound on Route 78.

The collision occurred near the eastern entrance of the fishing access.

Following the initial impact, Hakey’s vehicle then struck a parked 2025 Ford F-150 that was unoccupied on the westbound shoulder of Route 78.

The F-150 is owned by Frank Hall, 77, of Northfield.

Hakey and her passenger, John Hakey, 69, of Swanton, sustained minor-to-moderate injuries and were transported to Northwestern Medical Center.

Childers was not injured.

All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Road conditions were clear and weather was cloudy at the time of the incident.
