VALLEY STREAM, NY — A 4-year-old child was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway on Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers responded to the westbound lanes near exit 20 at Grand Avenue at approximately 2 p.m.
Upon arrival, troopers found a 2006 Nissan Sentra that had struck trees with the operator and child trapped inside.
Both occupants were removed from the vehicle.
The child was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Westbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway were closed from approximately 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The investigation remains ongoing.
