BRATTLEBORO, VT — A 27-year-old man was cited after police say he falsely claimed to be a law enforcement officer in the downtown area.

Benjamin Thomas, of Brattleboro, was issued a citation on June 17 for impersonating a police officer.

Police were notified on June 7 that an individual in the downtown area was telling people he was a police officer and was employed by the Town of Brattleboro as a security officer.

When police identified Thomas, they determined he was not a certified police officer or an employee of the town.

Thomas was ordered to appear in court at a later date.

Police are asking anyone with further information about this incident or any other incidents of people impersonating a police officer to contact the Brattleboro Police Department at 802-257-7950.
