Shooting suspect arrested in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — A man was arrested in connection with a shooting on Belmont Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 0-100 block of Belmont Avenue at approximately 2:45 p.m. for a report of shots fired.

Officers recovered evidence and observed damage to a vehicle at the scene.

Police received information that a subject involved in the shooting ran into the basement of an apartment building on Belmont Avenue.

Officers located a suspect in the basement at approximately 3 p.m.

The suspect was identified as Deshaun Stenson, 29, of Springfield.

Officers recovered a firearm in the basement.

During a search of Stenson, officers seized approximately 14 grams of crack-cocaine.

After reviewing video, officers observed Stenson allegedly shooting at two subjects, who have yet to be identified.

Stenson has a prior conviction in Hampden Superior Court for the illegal possession of a firearm.

Stenson is charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license – 2nd offense, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, improper storage of a firearm, possession with the intent to distribute a class B drug, possession of a class B drug, breaking and entering for a misdemeanor and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.
