Two-vehicle collision on Route 66 in Ghent

GHENT, NY — New York State Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle head-on collision on Route 66 on June 15, 2026, at approximately 2:20 p.m.

An investigation determined that a 2026 Honda CR-V, operated by Jere Wrightsman, 81, of Chatham, New York, was traveling southbound on Route 66 when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a northbound 2024 Mazda CX-50 operated by Mary F. Sacco, 64, of Ghent, New York, head-on.

Both operators were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

Sacco sustained injuries that appear to be non-life threatening.

Wrightsman later succumbed to his injuries.
