Victims identified in three fatal crashes in Penobscot County

BANGOR, ME — The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of victims in three separate fatal motor vehicle crashes that occurred in June.

On June 2, 2026, at approximately 12:42 p.m., deputies investigated a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on Route 221 in Bradford.

Chester Michaud, 95, of Bradford, was struck and killed.

The driver of the sedan has been identified as Chester Williams, 77, of Hudson.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.

On June 8, 2026, at approximately 1:09 p.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 9 in Eddington, near the Eddington Town Office.

Wendell Thayer, 50, of Bradford, was operating a NE Kenworth company van when he crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a Versant Power pick-up truck.

Thayer was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Michael Dinsmore, 48, of Millbridge, was driving the Versant Power pick-up truck and was transported to the hospital and later released.

The investigation is ongoing, but no charges are expected to be filed.

On June 13, 2026, at approximately 9:57 p.m., deputies responded to an ATV side-by-side crash on Beech Grove Road in Corinth.

The side-by-side was operating on Beech Grove Road, which is identified as an access road, when it left the roadway and rolled over.

Both occupants were thrown from the machine.

Fredrick Gainer, 68, of Stetson, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
