Former correction officer indicted in Rockland County

NEW CITY, NY — A former Rockland County correction officer has been arraigned on criminal charges stemming from alleged misconduct while on duty.

Russell Thorne was indicted on charges of attempted assault in the second degree, promoting prison contraband in the first degree, criminal tampering in the third degree and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced Wednesday.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after receiving information regarding the allegations.

Thorne was arrested following the investigation.

The case was referred to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Sheriff Louis Falco III said the Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of all individuals and upholding the integrity of law enforcement.
