Juvenile bicyclist seriously injured in crash in Swanton

SWANTON, VT — Vermont State Police are investigating a crash involving an electric bicycle and a motor vehicle that left a 13-year-old seriously injured.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. June 26, 2026, on Hog Island Road.

Police said Erin Blake, 42, of Fairfax, was traveling south on Hog Island Road in a 2025 Toyota BZ4X when the juvenile entered the roadway from a driveway on the west side.

The 13-year-old, of Swanton, was operating an ACTBEST electric bicycle and suffered serious non-life threatening injuries.

The juvenile was life flighted to the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Blake was not injured in the crash.

Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the incident.

The Swanton Police Department, Missisquoi Valley Rescue and the Swanton Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
