Eight men charged in jail death in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA — County police have charged eight men in connection with the death of an incarcerated individual at the Allegheny County Jail.

On May 13, the Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit was requested to investigate the assault of an incarcerated individual inside a cell at the Allegheny County Jail.

The individual, later identified as 44-year-old Tyrone Good, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives reviewed surveillance video of the incident which showed six incarcerated individuals entering Good’s cell at 12:44 p.m.

A few minutes later, two additional incarcerated individuals entered the cell and closed the door behind them.

In total, detectives determined the incident lasted approximately six minutes and 30 seconds.

Through surveillance videos, witness interviews, and evidence recovered throughout the jail, detectives were able to identify all eight individuals involved.

After consultation with the district attorney’s office, charges have been filed against Kendall McKoy, 24, Justin Allen, 25, Delvonte Woodson, 20, Jerrell Rockymore, 18, Mark Beavers, 27, Tavarius Lee, 20, Shawn Davis, 23, and Anthony Schmitt, 24.

All eight men are facing multiple charges to include criminal homicide, criminal conspiracy, and tampering with physical evidence.

All remain in the Allegheny County Jail pending preliminary arraignment.
