Woman charged with aggravated DWI in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A woman was arrested on drunken driving charges following a traffic stop on South Road on June 9, 2026.

New York State Police stopped a vehicle traveling northbound on South Road at approximately 10:09 p.m. for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The operator, Karissa N. Peters, 20, of Wappinger Falls, exhibited signs of intoxication during the stop, police said.

Peters failed standardized field sobriety tests administered at the scene.

She was taken into custody and transported to State Police barracks in Wappinger for processing.

Peters submitted to a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.21 percent.

She was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.18 percent or more, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Peters was also charged with driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor, and vehicle and traffic law violations.

She was issued appearance tickets returnable to Poughkeepsie Town Court on July 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
