Two arrested on drug charges in Elmira

ELMIRA, NY — Two people were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop on June 9.

An Elmira Police officer and a New York State Police trooper assigned to a Gun Involved Violence Elimination detail conducted a traffic stop in the area of Euclid Avenue and West First Street.

During the stop, officers recovered approximately one half pound of methamphetamine, an additional quantity of suspected narcotics, a digital scale, an imitation pistol and $7,400 in U.S. currency.

James J. Johnson and Lee R. Dewart, both occupants of the stopped vehicle, were arrested and transported to Elmira Police Department headquarters for processing.

Both Johnson and Dewart were charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance in the second degree, a class A-II felony.
