COVENTRY, CT — Police arrested a 62-year-old man on an arrest warrant June 6 in connection with child sexual abuse material discovered on computers from a former children’s camp.
Mark Harrington, of Vernon, was charged with possession of child sexual abuse material, third degree.
In January, potential images of child sexual abuse material were discovered on computers being destroyed by the former Channel 3 Kids Camp, according to police.
The camp’s IT vendor discovered the material and reported the incident to police.
The computers were being disposed of after the sale of the camp in 2024.
A forensic examination by the DESPP Forensic Lab revealed 12 suspected child sexual abuse material files along with 4,262 non-child sexual abuse material files classified as child exploitative or age indeterminate, police said.
Harrington, a former employee of the camp, was determined to be the suspect.
Police obtained a search warrant for his residence and executed it with assistance from detectives from Vernon Police, the Connecticut State Police Computer Crimes Unit and Homeland Security Investigations.
Several electronic items were seized and later examined.
After examination, eight files were determined to be child sexual abuse material with thousands of images listed as non-child sexual abuse material or child exploitative, according to police.
Police said they do not believe the victims in the photos are children who attended the camp.
Evidence suggests the images were obtained from internet sources, police said.
Harrington posted a $20,000 court-set bond and was given a court date of June 17 at GA 19 in Rockville.
