NORTH PROVIDENCE, RI — Police are notifying the public about a high-risk sex offender who has been released in the area.
Kemont Bowie, 46, of North Providence, is residing in the area of McGuire Road, according to the North Providence Police Department.
Bowie was convicted in 2015 in federal court of sex trafficking of a child and transportation of a minor for sexual activity involving a 17-year-old female victim.
He is classified as a Level III sex offender, the highest risk category, indicating officials believe he has a high potential to re-offend.
Bowie’s probation is set to expire on Oct. 19, 2038.
The notification was issued under Rhode Island’s Sexual Offender Registration and Community Notification Act, which allows law enforcement to inform the public when officials determine such disclosure will enhance public safety.
Police said Bowie is not wanted at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court.
The department warned that threatening, intimidating or harassing registered sex offenders is not tolerated and may constitute a crime.
