EDDINGTON, ME — The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Route 9 near the Eddington Fire Department.
The Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a report of the crash at approximately 1:08 p.m. June 8, 2026.
First responders determined that a van traveling westbound on Route 9 crossed the roadway and struck a work vehicle that was legally parked in the breakdown lane.
The collision was head-on and resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles.
The operator of the parked work vehicle was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The operator of the van was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team is actively investigating and reconstructing the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Eddington Fire Department, Holden Fire Department, Brewer Rescue and Capital Ambulance.
