RIDGEWAY, NY — A traffic stop on Ridge Road led to the arrest of a 62-year-old man on felony drunk driving charges after authorities found two children in his vehicle.
Dean E. Smith, of Lockport, was pulled over at approximately 5:51 p.m. June 6 by Orleans County Sheriff’s Lieutenant James White.
Smith displayed signs of impairment during the stop, according to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office.
Two children, ages 6 and 10, were in the vehicle at the time.
Smith was administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and taken into custody.
Following a Drug Influence Evaluation, Smith was charged with Aggravated DWI with a Child Passenger Less than 16, a Class E felony under Leandra’s Law.
He also faces charges of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor; two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A misdemeanor; and Move From Lane Unsafely, a traffic infraction.
Smith was transported to the Orleans County Jail for Centralized Arraignment Court.
