Man arrested on felony DWI, weapons charges in Endicott

ENDICOTT, NY — A Pennsylvania man is facing felony DWI and weapons charges following a traffic stop in the Village of Endicott.

Jason M. Sweeney, 43, of Friendsville, Pennsylvania, was arrested Wednesday evening by members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group.

Deputies observed a white Dodge Ram performing a “peel out” at a stop light before traveling westbound at a high rate of speed on North Street at approximately 10:30 p.m.

During the traffic stop, Sweeney admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening and displayed multiple signs of intoxication, including glossy eyes, poor coordination and poor balance, according to deputies.

Sweeney failed standard field sobriety testing.

Deputies observed an empty pistol holster on the passenger seat, a box of ammunition on the floor and a handgun in plain view directly behind the driver seat.

Sweeney stated he did not have a permit for the handgun in New York State.

Deputies secured the weapon, a 9mm Kahr CW9 semi-automatic pistol, along with three loaded Kahr 9-7 9mm magazines.

Sweeney was found to have had a previous conviction for aggravated DWI from 2022.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction within 10 years, a class E felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony; and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree with a previous conviction, a class D felony.

Sweeney was arraigned at the Central Arraignment Part and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.
