2 dead in Moreau house fire

MOREAU, NY — Two people died in a house fire on Old Saratoga Road, state police said.

Troopers responded to the home at about 11 p.m. June 2 for a reported house fire.

One person was removed from the residence but later died from their injuries.

After the fire was extinguished, another person was found dead inside the home.

The deceased have been identified as David L. Book, 70, and Nancy L. Book, 64.

Dr. Michael Sikirica conducted autopsies of both individuals June 4 at Saratoga Hospital and determined their causes of death to be asphyxia due to inhalation of smoke and heated products of combustion.

The cause of the fire is pending further investigation in partnership with the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services Fire Inspection and Investigation Branch.

Saratoga County Fire Investigators and New York State Fire Investigators responded to the scene.
