LIMINGTON, ME — A landowner was struck and dragged 75 feet by an all-terrain vehicle on his property Thursday night after confronting the operator about speeding.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Pequawket Lake Road when the landowner observed a side-by-side ATV traveling through his property at a high rate of speed, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.

When the ATV returned minutes later, the landowner stopped the vehicle and told the operator to slow down.

As the landowner attempted to photograph the ATV and its registration, the operator rapidly accelerated, striking and dragging the landowner before getting away.

The landowner was treated at a hospital for abrasions and contusions and released Thursday night.

The Maine Warden Service is seeking information about the ATV’s owner and operator.

The vehicle is described as a gray and black one-bench side-by-side ATV that seats two people with a prominent brush guard on the front.

The operator was a male wearing an orange shirt, accompanied by a female passenger with dark hair.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Regional Communications Center dispatch in Augusta at 207-624-7076 ext. 9 or Maine Operation Game Thief at 1-800-ALERT-US or maineogt.org to remain anonymous.
