NORTH TONAWANDA, NY — A New Jersey man was arrested after allegedly attempting to fraudulently obtain a $20,000 loan from a local financial institution by impersonating another person.
The North Tonawanda Police Department was notified on May 28, 2026, of a person attempting to defraud a local financial institution using another person’s information.
Detectives began an investigation and determined that the suspect was attempting to take out a $20,000 loan from the financial institution and was impersonating somebody else to do so.
On May 29, the suspect arrived at the financial institution and attempted to complete the process of obtaining the loan.
Detectives took the suspect into custody without incident.
Elijah Toure, 30, of New Jersey, was charged with possession of a forged instrument 2nd degree, forgery 2nd degree, identity theft 1st degree, attempted grand larceny 3rd degree, falsifying business records 1st degree, criminal impersonation 2nd degree and aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd degree.
Toure was processed at the North Tonawanda Police Department and held for arraignment in North Tonawanda City Court.
