Man arrested in arson investigation in New Berlin

NEW BERLIN, WI — A 19-year-old man was arrested following an arson investigation at Biwer Park.

At 4:40 a.m. on May 29, 2026, New Berlin officers responded to the park at 3495 S. Sandalwood Drive following reports from neighbors that the park was on fire.

Witnesses reported seeing a man in the park with a gas can.

When officers arrived, they found the park’s merry-go-round on fire.

The New Berlin Fire Department extinguished the fire, but the merry-go-round was destroyed.

A short time later, officers located and arrested the suspect, a 19-year-old New Berlin man.

No force was used to take the suspect into custody.

Officers confirmed the suspect started the fire with a series of Molotov cocktails.

Officers believe the suspect acted alone, and there is no danger to the public.

No one was injured.

Aside from the damage to the merry-go-round, there was also minor damage to the basketball court.

Officers transported the suspect to the Waukesha County Jail, where he is awaiting charges.
