HORNBY, NY — A 69-year-old man was arrested following an investigation into a malnourished dog, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
James A. Byrnside, of Hornby, was charged with three counts of torturing or injuring an animal.
The investigation began May 22 when deputies responded to a report of a loose dog that appeared to be malnourished.
Three dogs were removed from Byrnside’s residence by the Hornby Dog Control Officer and the New York State Police to receive emergency treatment at an animal treatment center.
Sheriff’s Office investigators conducted an investigation into the alleged maltreatment of the animals.
Byrnside allegedly failed to provide proper care or sustenance for the three dogs at his residence.
Byrnside was released on an appearance ticket to appear in Hornby Town Court.
