Man arrested on felony charges in Vernon

VERNON, NY — A 37-year-old man faces multiple felony charges following a dispute in which a vehicle was damaged with a sledgehammer.

Charles R. Tooke, of Vernon, was arrested on May 26, 2026, by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from the Road Patrol Division responded to an address in the City of Oneida at approximately 3:12 a.m. on May 6, 2026, regarding a dispute that occurred in the Town of Vernon.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that during the dispute, a victim’s 2012 Chevrolet Silverado was damaged by the suspect using a sledgehammer.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Unit.

Tooke was charged with criminal mischief in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, attempted assault in the second degree, menacing in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.

He was processed at the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and turned over to the Oneida County Correctional Facility pending an arraignment in CAP Court.
