Man arrested on burglary charges in Montour Falls

MONTOUR FALLS, NY — The New York State Police have arrested a 27-year-old man following an investigation into two burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours of May 26, 2026, in the village of Montour Falls.

At approximately 2:35 a.m., troopers from SP Montour Falls responded to a reported burglary on Canal Street.

The suspect fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival.

Troopers, assisted by a K9 unit, an Unmanned Aircraft System, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Forensic Identification Unit, searched the area.

During the investigation, State Police identified Bradly Smith, of Montour Falls, as the suspect through surveillance footage and area interviews.

Investigators also determined a second burglary had occurred at a separate property in the village.

Smith was located later that day and interviewed by investigators.

He was charged with burglary 2nd degree: dwelling/sexually motivated, a class C felony; burglary 2nd degree: dwelling, a class C felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.

Smith was transported to the Schuyler County Jail for CAP arraignment.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office.
