SMITHTOWN, NY — A 29-year-old man was killed when his vehicle split in half after crashing on the Northern State Parkway.
New York State Police responded to the westbound lanes of the parkway near the New Highway overpass at exit 46 at approximately 8:30 p.m. on May 25, 2026.
Troopers found a 2010 Volkswagen EOS split in half with the driver ejected from the vehicle.
The driver has been identified as Salvatore Sparacino IV of Smithtown.
He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined erratic operation and unsafe speed were contributing factors that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
