Man charged with attempted assault in Ramapo

RAMAPO, NY — A 31-year-old man was arrested after allegedly swinging at a police officer while being investigated for slapping a teenager at a convenience store Tuesday night.

Officers from the Ramapo Police Department responded to the 7-Eleven on College Road at approximately 8:45 p.m. for a report of a disorderly intoxicated male inside the store.

Upon arrival, officers recognized the suspect from prior incidents at the location.

The man, from Monsey, had previously been issued a trespass warning for the business.

During the investigation, officers learned that the suspect had slapped a 15-year-old male while inside the store.

While officers were investigating the incident, the suspect swung at the back of an officer’s head.

A backup officer intervened and prevented the punch from connecting.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with attempted assault in the third degree, endangering the welfare of a child, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and trespass.

He was processed and released to a responsible party.
