Fisherman rescued from river in Weston

WESTON, CT — A fisherman was pulled from the Saugatuck River near Devil’s Glen on Sunday evening after going underwater and failing to resurface.

The Weston Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 6:21 p.m. reporting that a 27-year-old man had entered the river and immediately gone below the surface.

Weston Police, Weston Fire Department, and Weston EMS responded to the scene and initiated a search.

Cold-water rescue personnel from the Weston Volunteer Fire Department entered the water and conducted an initial search but were unable to locate the victim due to river conditions.

A mutual aid request was made for the Norwalk Police Department Scuba Team.

Divers from the Norwalk Police Department located the victim at approximately 8:26 p.m. approximately 20 feet below the surface.

The victim was brought to shore and extricated from the area by Weston Fire personnel.

Weston EMS provided immediate medical treatment and transported the victim to Norwalk Hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

All units cleared the scene at approximately 9:15 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation by the Weston Police Department.
