Two arrested in Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI — State police arrested two men on separate charges early Sunday morning.

At 1:19 a.m., troopers arrested Esvin Veliz, 32, of Providence, following a motor vehicle stop on Route 6.

Veliz was charged with driving under the influence of liquor, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, first offense.

He was transported to the State Police Lincoln Woods Barracks, where he was processed and arraigned by a justice of the peace.

Veliz was released with a future Sixth Division District Court date.

At 2:55 a.m., troopers arrested Andry Gonzalez-Vina, 36, of Passaic, New Jersey, as a fugitive from justice following a motor vehicle stop on Delaine Street.

Gonzalez-Vina faces charges out of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey for unlawful possession of a handgun without a permit, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and aggravated assault.

He was transported to State Police Headquarters, where he was processed and arraigned by a justice of the peace.

Gonzalez-Vina was later turned over to the Adult Correctional Institution Men’s Intake Center.
