WEST HAVEN, CT — Two New York residents turned themselves in to police after an investigation determined they staged an armed robbery to defraud an insurance company.

West Haven police responded to a parking lot on Elm Street in December for a reported armed robbery.

The victim told police she was robbed at gunpoint of all her jewelry.

The West Haven Police Detective Division assumed the investigation due to the nature of the incident.

Days later, the victim provided detectives with appraisals for the jewelry she claimed was stolen, totaling over $70,000.

During the four-month investigation, detectives identified inconsistencies in the statements provided by the victim and her husband regarding how the incident occurred.

Detectives determined the reported robbery had been staged by the female complainant and her husband.

Detectives drafted arrest warrants for both individuals, which were later issued.

Eunice Blakey, 47, of New York, and Reginald Blakey, 46, of New York, turned themselves in to West Haven police on May 21, 2026.

Both were charged with insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit larceny in the first degree.

Eunice and Reginald Blakey were released after posting bond and given a court date of June 18.
