OSWEGO, NY — A man faces multiple charges after allegedly making a threatening remark at a law enforcement facility and leading police on a pursuit through two municipalities.
Nathan Novak, 35, of New Haven, drove a white 2019 Ford F350 into an area reserved for law enforcement vehicles at the Oswego County Public Safety Center at around 10:03 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.
Novak allegedly used a PA system in the vehicle to make a threatening remark.
An on-duty sheriff’s office investigator who was familiar with Novak from previous law enforcement interactions observed the incident and began following the vehicle.
The investigator observed several traffic violations and attempted a traffic stop, but Novak refused to stop, according to the sheriff’s office.
Novak led police on a pursuit through the City of Oswego and the Town of Scriba to his home in New Haven, where he surrendered.
A loaded shotgun was located in his vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded two billy clubs, which are illegal to possess in New York.
The remark made at the Public Safety Center was heard as “Tell Bushwald he is done,” according to the sheriff’s office.
There is no sheriff’s office employee named Bushwald, and Novak invoked his Fifth Amendment right after being placed in custody.
Novak was charged with one count of criminal possession of a firearm, rifle, or shotgun in a sensitive location, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and ticketed for driving without a license, failing to obey a police officer, and other traffic violations.
Novak was arraigned in Oswego County CAP Court Wednesday evening and remanded to jail in lieu of $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond.
The Oswego City Police Department and the New York State Police assisted in the pursuit.
