Golf cart operator dies in collision in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, NY — New York State Police have identified the victims of a fatal collision between a golf cart and a pickup truck on State Route 12.

John R. Nielsen, 83, of Hurleyville, New York, was operating a 2013 EZGO TXT golf cart when he was struck and killed May 12.

James G. Flynn, 83, of Pennsylvania, was identified as the operator of the pickup truck.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:42 p.m. near the intersection of Pinehurst Road in the town of Alexandria.

The preliminary investigation indicates Nielsen was attempting to cross State Route 12 from the east shoulder to the west shoulder when the golf cart was struck by Flynn’s southbound 2018 Ford F150 pickup truck.

Nielsen was transported to River Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

New York State Police responded to the scene along with the Alexandria Bay Fire Department, Alexandria Bay Ambulance, and Thousand Island Emergency Rescue Service.

The Alexandria Bay Police Department assisted at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
