1 min read

JACKSON COUNTY, PA — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about scammers posing as deputies and demanding money over the phone.

Sheriff Gary Schuette said no deputy from the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff will ever call and request money over the phone.

The sheriff’s office has recently received reports of individuals claiming to be deputies and attempting to scam citizens by requesting payment over the phone.

In some cases, the caller ID may appear to display the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office phone number.

This is known as “spoofing,” where scammers manipulate caller ID information to appear legitimate.

Residents are reminded to never provide money, gift cards, banking information or personal information to anyone over the phone claiming to be law enforcement.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call and has questions or concerns should contact the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff directly at (517) 768-7900.

Anyone who believes they have fallen victim to this scam should call 911 immediately to report the incident.
