Armed career criminal arrested in Dorchester

DORCHESTER, MA — A 54-year-old man was arrested and a loaded firearm was recovered Tuesday evening in Dorchester.

Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made the arrest at about 6:30 p.m. in the area of 26 Westview Street.

While on patrol, officers observed an individual known to them among a larger group of people.

A query revealed the individual had an active felony warrant out of West Roxbury District Court.

As officers attempted to speak with the suspect, he slowly began walking away from them.

The suspect provided officers with a license from the U.S. Virgin Islands with a name that did not match his identity.

Upon positively identifying the suspect, officers placed him into custody.

During a search, officers located a firearm inside the suspect’s front waistband.

The firearm was determined to be a Glock 27 .40 caliber loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition.

Officers arrested Marlon Straw, 54, of Hyde Park.

Straw is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license third offense, unlawful possession of ammunition subsequent offense, carrying a loaded firearm, and armed career criminal level three.
