COLCHESTER, NY — Police arrested an 18-year-old man on burglary and other charges following an investigation into a break-in at an apartment building.

Drake A. Sherwood, of Downsville, was arrested Saturday and charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony, third-degree criminal mischief, a class E felony, and endangering the welfare of a child and fifth-degree conspiracy, both class A misdemeanors.

Police received a complaint Friday that an apartment building on Montgomery Avenue had been broken into at approximately 1 a.m. that morning.

Video evidence showed three males entered the apartment building and spray-painted sayings and symbols on multiple walls, according to police.

Investigators identified Sherwood and two minors as the suspects.

The property owner confirmed the males did not have approval to be inside the residence.

Officers located Sherwood on Saturday and placed him under arrest.

He was transported to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office to be arraigned in Central Arraignment.

The two minors were also charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and fifth-degree conspiracy.

They were released to their parents and scheduled to appear before Delaware County Probation and Delaware County Social Services.
