NICHOLS, NY — The body of an 18-year-old man reported missing two days earlier was recovered from the Susquehanna River on May 11, 2026.
Dalton G. Malmstrom of Nichols was found by the New York State Police Under Water Recovery Team and members of the K9 unit.
Troopers were assisted by members of the Nichols Fire Department.
Malmstrom was last seen leaving his residence near the Susquehanna River in the town of Nichols at approximately 7:45 a.m. on May 9.
Family members reported he was not acting like himself prior to leaving.
He was described as a 5-foot-10 male with dark hair and was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt.
Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including the Nichols Fire Department, Tioga Center Fire Department, Athens Township Fire Department, Sayre Fire Department, Athens Borough Fire Department, Bradford County Office of Emergency Services, Tioga County Office of Emergency Services, Owego Fire Department, Greater Valley Rescue and EMS, Litchfield Fire Department, Bradford County Drone Team, Tioga County Sheriff’s Department and multiple volunteers from New York and Pennsylvania.
