Two men charged in altercation in Batavia

BATAVIA, NY — Two men face charges following an altercation on State Street.

James D. Hooten, 37, of Batavia, allegedly shot Austin D. Medina, 26, of Batavia, in the face with a less-lethal Byrna gun on May 5.

Medina then threw items at Hooten and the two engaged in a physical altercation, according to police.

Hooten was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Medina was charged with third-degree assault, third-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment.

Both were arraigned in CAP Court and are due in Batavia City Court at a later date.

Jordan A. Baxter, 21, of Silver Springs, was arrested April 29 for third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing.

Baxter allegedly threatened another person with a knife during an altercation on Highland Park.

He was arraigned in Batavia City Court and released under the supervision of Genesee Justice.

Amanda L. Leach, 36, of Batavia, was arrested May 2 for third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

Leach allegedly used a hammer to break through the front door of Euphoria Bar and Lounge.

She then used the hammer to damage property inside, police said.

When police arrived and attempted to detain her, she resisted arrest.

She was arraigned in CAP Court and is due in Batavia City Court at a later date.

Danny D. Williams, 37, of Batavia, was arrested April 28 for second-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Williams allegedly broke into an apartment on Thomas Avenue and damaged property.

He was arraigned in Batavia City Court and remanded to the Genesee County Jail.

Elizabeth A. Lindner, 39, was arrested May 7 for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The charge stems from an incident in January when Lindner was allegedly found in possession of crack cocaine during an arrest on an unrelated charge.

She was issued an appearance ticket and released.

Lindner was arrested April 26 for trespass after she was allegedly located on the property at CVS, where she had previously been trespassed from.

She was issued an appearance ticket and released.

Karen A. Howard, 51, of Holley, was arrested May 1 for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Howard was allegedly found in possession of narcotics while being arrested on an unrelated incident.

She was issued an appearance ticket and released.

Rebecca L. Harrington, 32, of Batavia, was arrested April 30 for petit larceny.

Harrington allegedly stole cash from a donation bin at the YMCA.

She was issued an appearance ticket and released.

Gianna E. Williams, 19, of Batavia, was arrested May 2 for petit larceny.

Williams allegedly stole merchandise from Family Dollar.

She was issued an appearance ticket and released.

Heriberto Benitez, 52, of Batavia, was arrested May 3 for third-degree criminal trespass.

Benitez allegedly entered a business after previously having been trespassed.

He was issued an appearance ticket and released.

Nicole E. Hurlbutt, 39, of Batavia, was arrested April 25 for DWI.

Hurlbutt was charged following a traffic stop on West Main Street.

She was issued several traffic tickets and released.

Serenity A. Coon, 22, of Batavia, was arrested April 30 for endangering the welfare of a child.

Coon allegedly left a 7-month-old baby unattended in a vehicle for approximately one hour.

She was issued an appearance ticket and released.
