GREENBURGH, NY — New York State Police arrested a man on an aggravated DWI charge after he was found asleep behind the wheel of a running vehicle parked on the shoulder of the New York State Thruway on May 1, 2026.
Troopers observed a 2008 Toyota sedan parked on the right shoulder of the Thruway (I-87) shortly before 6 p.m.
The vehicle was running and the driver and sole occupant was asleep in the driver’s seat.
The driver was identified as Richard Joffre Lara-Bohorquez, 51, of Nyack.
Troopers detected signs of impairment during an interview with Lara-Bohorquez and administered standard field sobriety tests, which he failed.
He was arrested for DWI and transported to State Police Tarrytown for processing.
Lara-Bohorquez registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.28%, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08%.
He was released to a sober third party.
Lara-Bohorquez is due in Greenburgh Town Court on May 19, 2026.
