UPPER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP, PA — A man with a history of theft convictions was arrested May 6, 2026, following a six-month investigation into fraud allegations.
Michael J. Mazer was taken into custody by Upper Gwynedd Township Police on six felony charges and one misdemeanor charge related to theft and bad checks.
The charges stem from incidents in Upper Gwynedd and East Norriton townships.
Mazer has previously been convicted of nine theft and deception charges, including two felonies and seven misdemeanors.
He was released on unsecured bail by Judge Emmet Madden of District Court 38-1-02 on May 6, 2026.
In November 2025, a victim reported to Upper Gwynedd Township Police they hired Mazer to complete stucco work on their home for $16,000 in August 2024.
During negotiations, Mazer urged the victim to take out a loan for the full $16,000 to purchase materials to complete the job, according to police.
The victim agreed to obtain the loan and paid Mazer three separate payments totaling $16,000 with the agreement Mazer would satisfy the loan.
Mazer provided the victim with multiple bad checks that were declined when attempted to be negotiated, police said.
Police gave Mazer multiple opportunities to satisfy the loan, but Mazer continuously provided excuses and false promises when deadlines came and went, according to authorities.
Mazer told detectives he was selling appliances for a profit and would be able to pay off the loan.
Upper Gwynedd detectives learned of an active arrest warrant from East Norriton Township Police Department of a similar nature.
In the East Norriton complaint, Mazer promised a victim appliances, obtained monetary payment and never provided the agreed upon appliances, police said.
Police believe Mazer defrauded the East Norriton victim to obtain money to satisfy some of the funds owed to the Upper Gwynedd victim.
Both departments gave Mazer multiple opportunities to pay what he owed the victims or turn himself in to face the charges, ultimately resulting in his arrest by warrant.
Upper Gwynedd Township Police are urging anyone who believes they have been victimized by Mazer to contact the department or their local jurisdiction.
