MARCY, NY — A Massachusetts woman driving a tractor trailer crashed into an active work zone on the New York State Thruway on May 7, 2026, injuring herself and a worker.
Katherine W. Swain, 63, of Halifax, Massachusetts, was traveling eastbound on the Thruway in a 2019 Volvo tractor trailer shortly after 6 a.m. when she failed to obey road signs indicating a lane change and entered the work zone, according to State Police.
Swain struck a concrete barrier and continued through the work zone, striking a 2020 Toyota pickup truck parked within the work zone, police said.
The pickup truck was occupied by Andrew Pryslopski, 48, of Little Falls.
Swain was transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Pryslopski was transported by a third party to Wynn Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Speed appeared to be a contributing factor in the crash, police said.
Swain was issued citations for vehicle and traffic law violations and is due in Marcy Town Court at a later date.
