Officer struck by vehicle while on motorcycle in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, MA — A police officer was struck by a vehicle while operating a motorcycle during a funeral procession Tuesday morning.

The collision occurred just after 9 a.m. while members of the New Bedford Police Department were assisting with the procession.

Both the officer and the vehicle operator were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The vehicle operator was issued a citation for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The officer’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, and he is expected to recover.
