DRACUT, MA — The Dracut Police and Fire Departments responded Tuesday night to a fatal, head-on crash on Merrimack Avenue.
On Tuesday, May 5, at approximately 8:35 p.m., the Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of 166 Merrimack Ave. for a report of a rollover crash.
First responders were updated while en route that a person had been ejected from one of the vehicles.
First responders arrived to find a two-vehicle crash.
A 48-year-old Tyngsborough man lay unconscious on the roadway near a Jeep Wrangler that appeared to have come to rest on its side.
An off-duty EMT from Pridestar Trinity EMS was already on scene and performing CPR on the 48-year-old.
Police then took over CPR until Pridestar Trinity EMS and Lowell General Hospital paramedics arrived and transported the 48-year-old to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Firefighters evaluated a woman and a teenager who were in the other vehicle involved, a Subaru Forester, and treated them on scene for what are believed to be minor injuries.
Police and firefighters deployed a K9 unit and a boat to extensively search the area, based on reports that suggested a second person may have been in the Wrangler.
No other individuals were found.
The 48-year-old was identified as Damian Torres, of Tyngsborough.
The crash remains under investigation by the Dracut Police Department, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
