WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA — Police are investigating a serious crash involving a pedestrian on Memorial Avenue.

A 53-year-old man was walking eastbound while pushing a shopping cart in the right-hand travel lane at approximately 8:15 p.m. when he was struck from behind by a vehicle also traveling eastbound.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to police.

The West Springfield Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
