TEWKSBURY, MA — Chief Ryan Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department arrested a patient at Tewksbury State Hospital on Monday night.
Tewksbury Police responded to the hospital at about 8:04 p.m. on Monday when hospital security reported an assault between two patients.
A preliminary investigation determined that two patients in a locked unit had gotten into an argument that escalated.
A 41-year-old male allegedly threw a trash can at and pushed a bedside table into the other patient.
The other patient reported that they were experiencing pain.
Tewksbury Fire transported the patient to an area hospital without incident.
Police determined that the 41-year-old male was the aggressor.
In a subsequent investigation, police determined he had an active felony warrant out of another District Court for charges including several counts of assault and battery on a police officer.
The 41-year-old male was arrested on two charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
On Saturday, police responded to another patient-on-patient assault at the hospital, in which a patient with a criminal history was charged with assault and battery after punching another patient in the face.
