Man arrested on murder charge in Stratford

STRATFORD, CT — A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month on Woodstock Avenue.

Robert Kopasz, 21, of Stratford, was arrested April 28 and charged with murder by firearm and multiple weapons offenses.

The Stratford Police Department responded to 437 Woodstock Avenue on April 4 at approximately 11:40 p.m. on report of a disturbance.

The incident was determined to be a homicide.

Paul T. Balzarano, 43, of Stratford, was identified as the deceased victim.

He died as the result of suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

Kopasz is also charged with illegal possession of an assault weapon without a certificate, illegal violation of fire rate enhancement (machine gun), illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

He was issued an April 28 court date and is being held in lieu of a $1.5 million court-set bond.

An American Tactical Omni Hybrid semi-automatic multi-caliber rifle and a Glock 22 40 caliber pistol, equipped with an illegal after-market switch, which allows the firearm to be fired fully automatic, were seized as evidence.
