COLONIE, NY — Police used a drone to locate an 8-year-old boy who wandered away from his mother on Jan. 16.
The Colonie Police Department received a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. regarding an unattended child walking on the town bike path near Colonie Town Park without shoes.
The child’s mother was actively searching for him when police were notified.
Patrol officers responded and began searching the area on foot.
Officers Dan Kutny and Dan Franklin, both members of the department’s Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit, deployed a drone to search from the air.
The drone located the child playing on a playground about a half mile from where he was last seen.
Kutny and Franklin guided patrol units to the child’s location.
The child was reunited with his mother.
