DE KALB, NY — New York State Police charged a 68-year-old man with Driving While Intoxicated following a single-vehicle crash on April 25, 2026.
Scott R. Bennett, of De Kalb Junction, was arrested after troopers responded to River Road at approximately 6:21 p.m. for a reported accident.
Troopers located a black 2026 Kia with damage upon arrival.
An investigation determined that Bennett was traveling southwest on River Road when he lost control of the vehicle, exited the roadway, struck multiple trees, and came to rest partially on the roadway.
Troopers observed signs of impairment while speaking with Bennett.
Bennett failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests administered at the scene.
He was transported to SP Gouverneur, where he provided a positive breath test result of 0.13% BAC.
Bennett was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of De Kalb Court at a later date in May.
